THE BODY of a woman has been discovered on the side of a motorway in Beirut, in the country of Lebanon.
Diplomat Rebecca Dykes was working for the UK embassy in Beirut before she was killed.
The young woman had been working in Beirut since January 2017 for the department for international development in the embassy.
According to BBC, the woman had been strangled before her body was found on the side of a motorway.
The family of Rebecca Dykes' made a statement following the death: "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Rebecca. We are doing all we can to understand what happened. We request that the media respect our privacy."
It's believed the woman was sexually assaulted before the strangling which led to her death.
The British ambassador to Lebanon, Hugo Shorter tweeted that the embassy was shocked by the news.
The whole embassy is deeply shocked, saddened by this news. My thoughts are with Becky’s family, friends and colleagues for their tragic loss. We're providing consular support to her family & working very closely with Lebanese authorities who are conducting police investigation.
