A POPULAR outreach worker, who will feature prominently in a forthcoming RTE Radio documentary about the Irish in London, has passed away peacefully in his home in Hammersmith.
Dick Fitzgerald, 77, from Limerick, conducted interviews in recent weeks for the two-part radio documentary entitled Over There and is scheduled to appear in the first episode - The Green Line on May 4.
Dick was known affectionately as the Governor, having spent years in incarceration in London's Pentonville Prison, before winning his battle with alcoholism.
Mr Fitzgerald had worked with homeless and addiction support services through organisations like Cricklewood Homeless Concern (CHC) and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).
In 2010, he was recognised by the Minister of State for his outreach work.
He was interviewed by The Irish Post at Pentonville Prison just weeks before his death.
