A DETECTOR dog helped Revenue officer seize more than 7million smuggled cigarettes at Dublin Port on Halloween.
Officers, with the assistance of canine Kelly and a mobile x-ray scanner, uncovered the haul of 7.2million cigarettes yesterday on freight that had arrived from Rotterham.
The seized cigarettes, branded ‘Excellence’ and ‘Gold Classic’, have a retail value of more than €4million.
That represents a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €3.2million.
Revenue says investigations are ongoing.
