A DERRY woman was left humiliated after she was abused online over her skin condition by staff at a clothes store she visited.
Ciara Moore, 28, who suffers from psoriasis, was trying on an outfit for a friend’s wedding at Quiz Clothing store in Richmond Shopping Centre in Derry.
When she arrived home she discovered that staff members had ridiculed her condition on their personal Facebook accounts.
"They had a whole big chat, a big rant explaining that I had left quite a mess in the changing rooms and that they were disgusted,” she said.
"They said they were throwing up in their mouths cleaning up the mess. I was humiliated, I really was. I couldn't believe that anybody could actually talk about me like that."
Psoriasis ranges in severity, and causes red, scaly patches of skin covered with silvery scales often creating irritation and discomfort for sufferers.
Ms Moore told the BBC that while trying on her outfit in the changing room, sections of her skin began flaking.
She had offered to clean the remnants that had fallen onto the floor but a staff member ensured her that she didn’t need to.
"When I was paying at the counter I asked if I could get a brush to clean it up,” she said. "I explained to her that I do have a skin condition and it is embarrassing. She said don't worry about it, it's fine."
Ms Moore thanked those who supported her since the incident went viral and is now seeking an apology from the shop workers involved.
She has also made a complaint to the store, who said they are dealing with the matter and will be taking action.
In a statement, Quiz Clothing said: "We are deeply sorry for any upset caused by this employee posting a personal Facebook comment and advise that the matter is being dealt with at its highest level internally.
"We will be taking all actions necessary in this instance."
The company added that it would also contact Ms Moore.
