Dates for Ireland's first Global Civic Forum announced

IRELAND’S first Global Civic Forum will take place at Dublin Castle on June 3 and 4 the Government has announced.

But if you are an organisation serving the Irish community in Britain and want to take part in that discussion you must register for the forum by April 20.

“This will be an opportunity for organisations supporting the Irish diaspora abroad to come to Dublin to discuss their work with these communities,” a Department of Foreign Affairs spokesperson confirmed yesterday.

“It is anticipated the Forum will discuss issues such as new Irish emigrants, Irish identity and heritage, reaching out to Irish citizens abroad and assisting emigrants to return to Ireland,” they added.

“In addition a number of workshops will be arranged for Irish community organisations which will focus on issues common to all organisations, for example governance, fundraising and communication strategies.”

Attendance at the forum, which was set out in the government’s Global Irish Diaspora Policy last month, is open to all organisations working with Irish communities abroad.

“In many cases these organisations also receive funding under the Irish Government's Emigrant Support Programme,” the announcement claimed.
