The cost of a pint is set to rise again as Diageo increases prices

THE cost of a pint of Guinness is about to get a little more expensive.

Diageo, the company which produces a range of alcoholic beverages including Guinness, Smithwicks, Hop House, Carlsberg and Budweiser, have announced that they are going to increase the price of draught beer.

It is set to increase by 4c per pint, excluding VAT, to publicans and a similar increase for packaged beer to retailers.

The firm has said that the reason for the increase is due to the “rising costs in doing business in Ireland”.

A spokesperson for the company said: “This increase is in line with current inflation trends and it is necessary to ensure we can continue to make significant investments in our business and in the wider hospitality sector.”

Last year, the company announced a similar increase, which was the first in five years.

The increases are set to come into effect from July 2nd.

The average price of a pint is currently four euro and fifty cent.
