ACTOR Colin Farrell has vowed to jet home to Ireland specifically to vote for same-sex marriage in the impending referendum in May.
While a guest on the first instalment of RTE’s new show Clare Byrne Live, the Dublin actor claimed he is fully behind a ‘yes’ vote.
Now based in the US, the Phone Booth star recorded his interview with Byrne via satellite link from LA last week, where he shared his views on same sex marriage.
The Dubliner claimed he found it “grossly unfair” that his gay brother Eamon couldn’t wed in Ireland and was forced to marry in Canada.
He went on to recall the bullying his brother went through as a youngster.
Eamon has since confirmed that his brother plans to continue pressuring for a yes vote and will take a break from filming to be home for the referendum in May.
He said: “Colin will continue to fight for my right to marry Steven, and will be home to vote yes.”
Colin was by brother Eamon’s side when he married Steven Mannion in Canada.
Talking to Byrne this month, he added: “To see them every day live their lives as a happily married couple is an amazing thing.
“And to think that they had to leave their own country to do that is sad and disappointing and just grossly unfair I feel.”
