Charity golf day will support Coventry fundraiser

A TWO-part fundraising event for a popular member of the Irish community in Coventry takes place this Monday, August 12.

Jim Roche, known locally as ‘Roachy’, is a familiar face and avid fundraiser for good causes across the region, but a recent stroke has left him bedridden.

So friends have organised a charity fundraising day to help raise cash to support the Dublin-native and his family through his condition.

Friend and event organiser Tony Carey explained: “Throughout my time knowing Roachy, he has always been honest, reliable, respected and never turned down a request for help - but most of all, he is the life and soul of any room that he enters.”

He added: “But due to recent poor health, it is now time for us to raise some support for the man himself.”

On Monday the community will come together to support Mr Roche and his family at a fundraising golf day and social evening - the proceeds of which will be donated to the family to aid his care and health.

Teams can still sign up for the golf tournament, which takes place at the Windmill Village Golf Course on the A45/Birmingham Road, Allesley, in Coventry.

Participants can enter individually for £25 or in teams of 4 for £100, which includes a pre-golf snack, entrance and a buffet dinner at the evening presentation.

Entries can be submitted by email to [email protected] or by calling Pat Carey on 07831 214440.

The winners’ presentation will take place that evening at Careys Bar and Nightclub, where live music from Richard Gissane and a DJ will take supporters into the evening.

All are welcome to attend the evening event at Careys, Hertford Place, Coventry, CV1 3JZ.

Admission for non-golfers is £5.
