AN ELDERLY Irish man has gone viral on social media after he shared what he has learned about life over the years.
92-year-old Nick Corish was featured as part of Humans of Dublin, a Facebook photo project created to make people more aware of the lives of others in the Irish capital’s often lonely landscape.
The dapper gentleman, dressed to brave the city’s late winter chill, said: “My motto in life is ‘keep doing anything you are able to do’!”
“It may sound simple, but let me put it in other words. It came back to me recently because somebody saw me putting on my socks standing up after swimming in the sea.
“The person was worried that I'd fall.
“You see, I'm 92 years of age, and I always put them on that way. I'm not planning to change it while I can do it.
“You can't give up on yourself before life does!"
Mr Corish still runs four miles several times a week, cycles, gardens, ballroom dances and, of course, swims.
His picture and quote has gotten people feeling inspired, with many recalling the retired school principal’s can-do attitude, from when he taught his pupils to swim.
“This man taught most of the South-east of Ireland how to swim,” one wrote.
Another commenter said: “Met this legend of a man through the Irish Water Safety Association where he taught countless people to swim, and gain skills to save others. Respect.”
