British-born Oregon killer's MySpace page featured pro-IRA imagery

A MySpace page belonging to the man who shot and killed nine people in the US yesterday has since been found to feature pro-IRA imagery.

Nine people died and seven injured when British-born Chris Harper-Mercer, 26, opened fire at the Umpqua Community College in Oregon yesterday morning.

The photos section of his MySpace page is filled with pictures of Irish paramilitaries holding firearms.

Under one picture he had added the caption 'Have faith and keep fighting, never lose, never stop'.

In an image of himself he can be seen holding a gun, the caption beneath the photo reads : “Me, holding a rifle. It was supposed to be all the way in the picture, but it didn't work out. Only the barrel shows.”

The collection of images also included a cover of republican magazine An Phoblacht, with the headline 'British army could not defeat IRA'.

He had also added this own caption to this, “Yeah, it's true.”

Survivors of the shooting have reported that he had asked victims their religion, before being gunned down.

The gunman was later shot dead during a stand-off with police.

Harper-Mercer moved to California as a young boy with his English father, Ian Mercer who told the US media he is "as shocked as everyone" about the shooting.

"It's been a devastating day. Devastating for me and my family," he said. "I'm just as shocked as everybody at what happened."
