Brave 13-year-old boy with stutter delivers powerful speech praising Joe Biden

A 13-YEAR-OLD boy with a stutter delivered the standout speech of the final night of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in the US.

Brayden Harrington overcame understandable nerves to speak via mobile phone camera from his home in Concord, New Hampshire.

He explained the role former vice president Joe Biden – who also suffered a stutter in his younger years - played in helping him overcome his speech impediment.

Reading from a sheet of paper, Brayden began by explaining: "Without Joe Biden, I will not be talking to you today."

The young teenager first met the Democrat Presidential candidate at a town hall event back in February where Biden told him they were "members of the same club - we stutter".

Brayden drew confidence from seeing someone like himself could rise to the rank of vice-president of the United States.

“It’s really amazing to hear that someone became vice president” despite stuttering, he said.

Biden had a few bits of advice for him too.

“He told me about a book of poems by Yeats that he would read out loud to practice,” the 13-year-old said.

Biden also recalled how he would practice speaking in a mirror.

The meeting helped Brayden feel “confident about his stutter” - something he admitted had “bothered” him his entire life.

“Joe Biden cared,” he added. “Imagine what he could do for all of us.”

The inspiring teen battled back against his stutter and understandable nerves to deliver a speech many ranked as the highlight of the convention.

He closed his speech with a simple plea to US voters every, telling them: "Kids like me are counting on you to elect someone we can all look up to, someone who cares, someone who will make our country and the world feel better."

The address was hailed as the "speech of the night" by one journalist, with another stating "I hope Brayden follows Twitter so he knows how proud of him the whole country is."
