AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD boy is the latest to die in a slurry tank accident in the north of Ireland.
Robert Christie was overcome by slurry gases when he and his father were helping out on a friend’s farm near their own in Dunloy, Co Antrim on Saturday.
Both were airlifted to a Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital, where Robert’s father Bertie, 52, remains critically ill.
Doctors were unable to resuscitate the youngster, who was described as a ‘bubbly wee character’ by the principal of his Knockahollett Primary School this week.
His funeral is due to be held tomorrow (June 10) at his local parish in Dunloy.
The tragedy is the latest in a series of slurry related incidents on farms in the north of Ireland.
One of the most high profile was in September 2012, when Ulster rugby player Nevin Spence, his father Noel and brother Graham died after they were overcome by fumes on their family farm.
