THE BODY of an Irish student, who went missing in Vienna last week, has been found today in the Danube Canal.

The 21-year-old from Athboy had last been seen leaving a nightclub called Flex with two friends during the night on Friday.

The police had assumed since the middle of the week that the Irishman fell into the water immediately after leaving the premises.

The sea and electricity service of the police searched for days for the man, whereby a sonar boat was used.

The body was discovered at 14.30 clock in the area of the Freda Meissner Blue Promenade located by divers of the special unit Cobra and salvaged, according to police spokesman Harald Söros.

Information about the cause of death will be revealed following an autopsy.

The 21-year-old had stayed with two fellow students in Vienna.
