THE body of a 66-year-old man has been discovered at an apartment in Cork city.

The man was found unresponsive inside a property off Galway's Lane in Douglas shortly after 8am this morning.

Paramedics attended the scene where the man was pronounced dead.

The death is being treated as suspicious by Gardaí.

Local reports suggest that the front door of the man's apartment had been broken in.

He is believed to have been found by a relative who immediately alerted the emergency services.

His body remains at the scene.

The area has been cordoned off pending the arrival of a Garda Forensic Unit and the assistant state pathologist.

Gardaí said the course of their investigation will be determined by the results of a forthcoming post-mortem examination at Cork University Hospital (CUH).
