Body found in river following search for missing schoolgirl Ursula Keogh

A BODY has been found in a river following a search for missing 11-year-old Ursula Keogh. 

Police in West Yorkshire, found the body of a young female in the River Calder at Paris Gates in Halifax yesterday evening.

The young girl was reported missing shortly before 4pm yesterday afternoon.

She was last seen wearing her school uniform, and believed to be walking across North Bridge at 3.30pm.

Police carried out a number of searches in the area, and confirmed shortly before 9pm last night that a body had been found.

In a statement, her school Lightcliffe Academy said: "Following the tragic death last night of our student Ursula Keogh, the academy is open today as we look to support students and the whole academy community with this heartbreaking loss.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Ursula’s family and friends and at this very difficult time."

Police said enquiries will remain ongoing to determine a cause of death.

However, at this stage, it is not believed there are any suspicious circumstances.

A formal identification will take place in the coming days and Ursula’s family have been informed of the discovery, police said.
