Blackpool Police identify David Schwimmer lookalike theft suspect after appeal goes viral

BLACKPOOL Police believe they have identified a David Schwimmer lookalike sought in connection with a theft after their appeal went viral.

A CCTV image showing a man carrying a crate of beer drew thousands of responses noting the suspect’s uncanny resemblance to the Friends actor.

Schwimmer, who played Ross Geller on the sitcom, joined in the fun, sharing a spoof video re-enactment proclaiming his innocence.

Now Blackpool Police believe they have identified their man thanks to the ‘international attention’ their appeal garnered.

“Could we BE any more overwhelmed with the response to our CCTV appeal on Tuesday – the one where we wanted to identify a man in connection with a theft at a Blackpool restaurant on September 20,” they posted on Facebook.

“We really appreciate your support and thank you for sharing the post with all your Friends.

“On a serious note, as a result of the international attention, we received a number of positive lines of enquiry.

“We are now satisfied we have identified the man in the picture and our enquiries are continuing.”

The man at the centre of the original appeal is being sought in connection with the theft of a jacket, wallet and mobile phone from Mr Basrai’s restaurant in Blackpool on September 20.

The CCTV image released by police showed the suspect buying beer from a shop.

Schwimmer’s video parodying the original CCTV image has been viewed more than 20million times across his social media accounts.
