Belfast woman becomes grandmother at the age of 30

A BELFAST woman has become a grandmother at the age of 30 – after her 15-year-old daughter gave birth to a baby girl.

The Belfast Telegraph reports that the mother-of-two is “over the moon” at the birth of her first grandchild.

The 15-year-old had her 17-year-old boyfriend by her side as she gave birth to the healthy baby girl at a Belfast hospital last week.

The new grandmother hit headlines earlier in the year when it was revealed she was set to become one of the youngest grannies in Britain and Ireland.

The unnamed mother, who gave birth to her first child aged 14, found out her 15-year-old daughter was pregnant late last year.

The woman is believed to be the youngest grandmother in Britain at present.

The youngest ever granny title was awarded to a Yorkshire woman in 1999, who had her first grandchild at the age of 26.
