Belfast people have more trouble sleeping than anywhere else in the UK, new study shows

A NEW survey has found that Belfast is the most tired city in the United Kingdom.

The last 12 months have been stressful for everyone, and while some find themselves sleeping longer, others still find themselves having nights of fitful sleep-- or unable to drift off at all.

A new report which analysed the 20 most populated cities in the United Kingdom found that people in Belfast are having the most restless nights by far.

Using data collected by OTTY which looked at over 400 key terms and their search volumes, the report found that the people of Belfast searched for sleepless-related terms far more than any other UK city.

The search terms, which included 'can't sleep', 'sleeping tablets' and 'insomnia' were 38% more likely to be searched by the people of Belfast than the average score across the other 20 cities.

The study found that for every 100,000 people in Belfast, sleep-deprived terms were searched for 1,931 times.

The second-sleepiest UK city was Newcastle, with 1,855 searches for sleepless terms per 100,000 people, followed by Plymouth at 1,794, Kingston at 1,680 and Stoke-on-Trent at 1,677.

The worrying statistics come after a Wellbeing Report found that two-thirds of UK adults suffered from disrupted sleep, with a third of people believing they suffer from insomnia.
