GUINNESS IS celebrating the return of pubs in Ireland and Northern Ireland and they have enlisted rising Hollywood star Barry Keoghan to help.
The star of upcoming Marvel blockbuster The Eternals has taken time out of his busy schedule in Tinseltown to star in a new advert for the iconic Irish stout maker.
Keoghan features alongside a few carefully placed pints of the black stuff, extolling the virtues of the humble pub and the return of nights out drinking with friends.
“Ah, the pub! It’s been a while,” he declares, breezily, with the air of man reunited with an old flame.
“Doors finally opening one by one,” he continues, as the advert cuts to mask-wearing revellers heading to their local for a pint or two.
“We all deserve this,” the Irish star declares.
“Every catch up with old friends, every smile across the bar, every ice breaker, every ‘gee, I’ve missed this.’”
It’s a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by both the pubs and their staff as well as the punters at home who have adhered to the lockdown rules.
Pubs across Ireland are due to reopen on Monday June 7 and have already returned in Northern Ireland.
Keoghan’s message to those hoping to head down to their local is simple: keep it sensible.
“We’ve all got skin in the game,” he explains.
“We have our pubs back, so let’s make it last.”
Filmed in the famous Duke of York pub in Belfast, which reopened last month, the advert is part of the Guinness “Every Moment Counts” campaign put together to promote safe socialising in the era of Covid-19.
Alexa Wolff, Guinness marketing manager said: "The ‘Every Moment Counts’ campaign is aiming to support the industry by building awareness of positive and safe socialising so that pubs can remain open for everyone to enjoy this summer and beyond.”
