Area of Ireland ranked among 'coolest' in the world

A NEIGHBOURHOOD in Ireland has been ranked among the very 'coolest' in the world, according to a new poll.

Time Out magazine ran a recent surveyed asking more than 27,000 respondents which neighbourhoods around the globe they enjoy most in terms of food, fun, culture and community.

As it turns out, Dublin 8 was voted the 15th coolest neighbourhood on the planet.

Time Out's Éadaoin Fitzmaurice wrote that Dublin 8 holds "the essence and charm if the Irish capital to a tee.

"With much of the city being built up with cookie-cutter hotels and skyscrapers, this nook has retained much of its original architecture."

He listed hotspots such as Lucky's Pub, the Pearse Lyons Distillery, as well as many 'bric-à-brac shops, street art, markets and home cafés as reason for Dublin 8's superiority.

Interestingly, Dublin 8 is the current home of Tánaiste Leo Varadkar. Trendy indeed.

The area is also home the famous Guinness Storehouse, Victorian prison museum Kilmain Gaol, and medieval Christ Church Cathedral.

The Liberties district features centuries-old pubs and an atmospheric street market, while Phoenix Park runs along the outskirts of the area. Quite the happening spot.
