A COURT in Northern Ireland descended into chaos after a man accused of battering a puppy to death with a hammer appeared to face a judge.
Kyle Keegan, 23, appeared before Craigavon Magistrates Court on Wednesday afternoon charged with animal cruelty, after the appalling killing of an 11-week-old pup called 'Sparky' was posted on Snapchat.
Keegan's mother clashed with animal rights activists inside the court after they shouted angry remarks towards her son.
As the activists blasted him, his mother approached them and said: "He was brought up decent, he was brought up well."
Keegan did not speak as he stood in the dock but nodded to confirm his name and what he was being charged for.
It was noted that the alleged incident had gone viral online and Judge Bernadette Kelly said that there may not be a suitable address for Keegan in Northern Ireland since his details were posted all over social media.
Police were alerted to the matter after a horrific video appeared on Snapchat on Saturday night.
It showed a puppy, alleged to be 'Sparky', getting hit with a hammer before being put in a microwave.
Keegan made no application for bail and will remain in custody for the next four weeks.
The case has been adjourned until March 2.
