An Post reveals commemorative stamp collection for Easter Rising centenary

AN POST has revealed a special set of 16 stamps commemorating the Easter Rising of 1916.

The 70 cent stamps, which each feature people and objects connected to the Rising, are on sale in post offices across Ireland – and can be purchased online for those overseas.

The stamps are divided into four different categories – Leaders and Icons; Participants; Easter Week and The Aftermath.

Each of the four groups catalogue a different part of the Easter Rising, featuring the key players involved at the time.

Some of the best-known names and faces from the Easter Rising are featured in the Leaders and Icons stamps – including Thomas J. Clarke, Seán Mac Diarmada and Thomas MacDonagh.

Meanwhile, the Participants stamps feature some lesser known names including the Malone brothers, William and Michael, who fought on opposite sides in the Rising.

But aside from being a special collectible for a philatelist, the stamps will also be on hand to teach you about the Easter Rising, thanks to the high end technology used.

Using a specific app, stamp owners can scan the stamps on to their phones which will bring them to an online resource to learn more about the history of the Rising.
