Alexander Pacteau remanded in custody after second court appearance

ALEXANDER Pacteau, the man accused of the murder of Karen Buckley, has been remanded in custody after a further court appearance today.

The 21-year-old made no plea when appearing before a judge on the charges of murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

No further court dates have been set for Pacteau, of Dorchester Avenue in Glasgow.

Karen Buckley, 24, was on a night out with friends in Glasgow’s west end when she vanished in the early hours of April 12.

She had been studying occupational therapy at Glasgow Caledonian University, having previously worked as a nurse in Princess Alexandra Hospital in Essex.

A huge search was launched and five days later police confirmed that a body found on a farm six miles north of the city was that of Ms Buckley.

Ms Buckley’s family have since issued a statement in which they said they were “absolutely devastated” and would “miss her terribly”.

Pacteau appeared before Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday, April 17, where he was charged with murder – before returning to the court today.
