Afghan refugee gives birth to baby girl on US Military plane after escaping Kabul

A WOMAN has delivered a healthy baby girl on a US Military plane after managing to escape from Afghanistan and the Taliban.

The United States Air Mobility Command confirmed the news and said that despite complications, both the new mother and her newborn child are "in good condition".

The US Air Force C-17 jet was taking men, women and children who were fleeing the Taliban from Kabul airport to Ramstein in Germany, home to the largest US air base outside of America.

Not long after taking off from Afghanistan, the unnamed woman suddenly went into labour-- she gave birth in the cargo bay of the plane after being assisted by US Airforce medics.

As the mother suffered complications during the labour, the aircraft commander made the decision to descend in altitude just enough to increase air pressure in the jet, "which helped stabilize and save the mother's life".

Upon landing in Ramstein, medics immediately reached the mother and helped her to deliver the child in the cargo bay before escorting her to a nearby medical facility.

A spokesperson for the United States Air Mobility Command shared an image of the woman being escorted from the plane with her newborn daughter and surrounded by military personnel, and wrote:

"Medical support personnel from the 86th Medical Group help an Afghan mother and family off a U.S. Air Force C-17, call sign Reach 828, moments after she delivered a child aboard the aircraft upon landing at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, Aug. 21.

"During a flight from an Intermediate Staging Base in the Middle East, the mother went into labor and began having complications. The aircraft commander decided to descend in altitude to increase air pressure in the aircraft, which helped stabilize and save the mother’s life.
"Upon landing, Airmen from the 86th MDG came aboard and delivered the child in the cargo bay of the aircraft. The baby girl and mother were transported to a nearby medical facility and are in good condition."
