A MAN who insulted an 11-year-old Irish Celtic fan with Down’s syndrome has been banned from attending football matches for 12 months.
Ross Gibson, 20, admitted tweeting that Lurgan youngster 'Wee Jay' Beatty was a “disabled piece of s**t” in court and must also do 200 hours of unpaid work.
Jay, the only non-professional footballer to win Scotland’s Goal of the Month award, is a much-celebrated Celtic superfan, who is also an ambassador of the Glasgow club’s charity, the Celtic FC Foundation.
Aberdeen fan Gibson made the comment on Twitter following Celtic’s 4-0 win over the Dons on March 1, 2015, but quickly deleted his account following a backlash from other users of the social media website.
He also posted an offensive remark about Celtic captain Scott Brown’s sister, who died of skin cancer in 2008.
Gibson was later charged and admitted acting in a threatening and abusive manner by sending sectarian messages online when he appeared in Aberdeen’s Sheriff Court.
