A LONDON company is asking the Irish public for help in creating a new app of Irish-themed emojis.
Fanmoji is in the process of producing a set of emojis dedicated to Ireland – a year after Apple rolled out the Irish flag emoji on its software update.
While the ‘Irishmoji’ app is 95 per cent complete, the firm is asking for the public’s help in choosing the final symbols to appear on the keyboard.
The callout asks Irish people to vote on locations, phrases and people as the app gets closer to completion.
Landmarks such as the Cliffs of Moher and the Rock of Cashel are vying for a place on the 100-character keyboard; while President Michael D Higgins also may have the honour of an emoji dedicated to his likeness.
“Ireland. The Emerald Isle. The birthplace of James Joyce, Oscar Wilde and Guinness. Inventors of Gaelic football and Hurling...the country has much to celebrate. It deserves more than one tiny little emoji flag, doesn’t it?”, Fanmoji said in a statement.
Voting opened today and will remain open until May 15 for people to have their say.
The app is expected to be released two weeks after the vote closes.
