AN LITTLE boy from County Meath has been doing his part to keep people safe during the coronavirus pandemic, and has now been recognised by the Gardaí for his excellent work.
8-year-old Taylor Friel, from Navan in County Meath, wants to follow in his Grandad's footsteps and become a Garda when he grows up, and wasted no time in getting some practice in.
The diligent kid has been on patrol in his housing estate, stopping cars that are passing through to ensure there is no non-essential travel taking place, dressed up to the nines in a hi-vis makeshift Garda vest and cruising along on a police motorbike.
His efforts were noticed by the local Garda unit Meath Crime Prevention, who took to Facebook to thank Taylor for his "great work" and told people "He hopes to be a Garda when he grows up.
"So if you are stopped by him be nice. Thank you Taylor."
The recognition made Taylor even more determined to keep up the good work, and he continued practising for his future as a Garda, until over the weekend he got a surprise visit from his heroes-- who wanted to ask him for advice!
A spokesperson for the Meath Crime Prevention Unit again took to Facebook to share the story and photographs of the day, showing a delighted Taylor sitting up on a real Garda motorcycle, getting good practice for the future.
"We reported during the week that young Taylor Friel is doing a brilliant job on Covid-19 patrols in his estate in Navan, making sure people are only making essential journeys," Meath Crime Prevention wrote.
"This afternoon Garda Byrne, Divisional Road Policing Unit, called up ... Taylor to discuss tactics and to let him and his brothers compare motorbikes.
"Thank you Taylor for helping us out and being so diligent on your patrols!"
Well done Garda Taylor, and keep up the good work!
