A MAN has been charged with the murder of an elderly woman in Clontarf, Dublin.
61-year-old Brendan Murray has appeared in court charged with the murder of his elderly mother.
Neasa Murray, 88, was found dead in a house in Clontarf, Dublin on Sunday evening last, and a subsequent post-mortem examination confirmed she died from a fatal assault.
A man in his 60s was arrested at the scene and taken to Clontarf Garda Station, where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
It has since been revealed that the man charged with Ms Murray's murder is her son, Brendan.
He appeared before a special sitting of Dublin District Court yesterday evening, where he was charged with the offence.
According to RTÉ News, Murray will undergo an urgent psychiatric evaluation and will reappear at Cloverhill District Court via video link next Friday.
He has been remanded in custody until that time.
