6 left dead after multi-vehicle crash

SIX people have been killed in a multi-car crash in Birmingham, UK.

A seventh person has also been left badly injured in the crash on Belgrave Middleway in the early hours of this morning.

At approximately 1.10am this morning, a number of cars including a taxi crashed, claiming six lives in the collision.

A member of the ambulance service who rushed to the scene described the incident: "This was an extremely complex and distressing crash scene that required excellent multi-agency teamwork. The ambulance service has already debriefed all of the staff involved and will be providing on-going support as required due to the nature of the incident."

Sergeant Alan Hands of the West Midlands police said the force were doing their best in coping with the situation: "We are currently dealing with a very serious collision and working with partner agencies to establish what caused this collision to happen.

He sent condolences to the families affected: "Our thoughts and deepest sympathies remain with the families of those who have very sadly lost their lives this morning and those who have been injured or caught up in this incident."

The West Midlands Twitter account said the area from Islington Row to Bristol Street was closed and advised drivers to stay away from the area.
