23-year-old becomes Ireland's youngest person to die from coronavirus

A 23-YEAR-OLD in the Republic of Ireland has passed away after contracting Covid-19.

Their death was announced at a press briefing by the Department of Health yesterday evening, Wednesday 15 April, where a further 1,088 newly confirmed cases were reported.

There have been no further details  regarding the person's name, gender, location or whether they had any underlying health conditions.

Their tragic death makes them the youngest person to die from coronavirus in Ireland.

Previously, the youngest person to pass away from the disease had been a 30-year-old patient who died on Monday, 12 April.

May all those who have lost their lives rest in peace.

The Republic of Ireland currently has over 12,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus, and 444 deaths related to Covid-19.

Confirming a further 38 deaths and 1,044 additional cases yesterday afternoon, Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer for the Department of Health, said:

"We are continuing to monitor the course of this disease across a range of indicators – not only in the number of confirmed cases and deaths reported but also through hospital and ICU admissions, clusters and patterns of transmission.

“While a number of these parameters are going in a positive direction, it is clear that we need to keep going in our efforts, on an individual level, to limit the spread of this virus.”
