19 further deaths, 330 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed in Ireland

A FURTHER 19 people have passed away after contracting coronavirus in Ireland.

The Department of Health have confirmed that as of 5.30pm on Sunday, 3 May, a further 19 people have lost their lives.

Their sad passing brings Ireland's total number of coronavirus-related deaths to 1,303, after two earlier reported deaths were de-notified.

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) have also confirmed an additional 330 cases of Covid-19 in the Republic, bringing the total to 21,506 according to a government press release.

The HSE is continuing to work rapidly in order to trace any close contacts the newly confirmed cases may have had, in order to advise them and further slow the spread of the virus.

Data from up to Friday, 1 May, shows that Dublin remains the worst-hit county in Ireland, with just under half of all confirmed cases-- 10,406-- followed by Kildare with 1,242 cases (6%) and Cork with 1,164 cases (6%).

Leitrim has the least amount of Covid-19 cases, with just 67 people having tested positive or the disease since the pandemic began-- or 0.3% of the total cases.

38 babies under the age of one have been confirmed to have contracted the disease, with 69 children between the ages of one and four contracting Covid-19.

However the 65+ age range remains the most at-risk, with 5,711 people have confirmed to have caught the virus-- over 27% of the total numbers.
