13-year-old boy killed, four other boys injured in horror crash in Westmeath

A 13-YEAR-OLD boy has been killed in a horror traffic accident in Westmeath.

The crash,which involved just one vehicle, occurred in the early hours of this morning, at approximately 2.15am in the Lisclougher Great area of Delvin, Co Westmeath.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, a 13-year-old passenger was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, and his body taken to the Mortuary at Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar.

Another teenage boy was rushed to Mullingar Regional Hospital, where his condition is understood to be critical.

Three other occupants of the car-- all boys aged in their teens-- received non life threatening injuries.

The crash scene has been preserved by Gardaí in order for Garda Forensic Collision Investigators to undertake a technical examination of the area.

It is understood the car the boys were travelling in had come to the attention of Gardaí before the fatal collision, and a referral has been mad to An Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSoc).

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the crash, to come forward, and are particularly eager to talk to any road users who may have video or dash cam footage of the Lisclougher Great area between 1.45am and 2.30am.
