A TOTAL of 11 arrests were made in Belfast yesterday, March 17, as revellers took to the city’s popular drinking hotspots to mark St.Patrick’s day.
According to police, there were numerous reports of sporadic anti-social behaviour that included scuffles and fighting throughout the city centre.
The PSNI released a statement early this morning confirming arrests were made for a number of offences including assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly behaviour.
Following a previous night of disturbances that saw three men arrested, a considerable police operation was in place throughout the city’s main drinking hotspots. However, despite the arrests, Belfast Commander Chief
Despite the arrests, Belfast Commander Chief Superintendent Chris Noble stated that “there was no repeat of the disgraceful levels of violence and behaviour on Wednesday”.
It's thought some of Belfast’s student population who converged in the city’s Holylands area were responsible for the trouble.
However, police noted that the arrests were an exception as most people who attended celebrations did so peacefully,
