AN IRISH CENTENARIAN has been robbed in the Strabane area of Co. Tyrone.
Pat Gillespie, a much-loved figure in the town of Strabane was burgled on Railway Street on Friday evening.
The 101-year-old man was at home when he robbed of cash by three thieves, it is believed.
According to Derry Daily, Pat is a well-known character in his local town, where he spends his time visiting his late wife Eileen's grave every day and fixing cars and bikes.
Richard Donnell, detective constable leading the investigation, condemned the attack on the old man.
"Police received at a report just after 9:30pm that earlier that evening the occupant of the house, an elderly male, was confronted by three men who had forced their way through a back window.
"This was a disgusting and cowardly attack in which the intruders left with a quantity of cash.
"Thankfully, the man was not physically injured during the incident, however, he has been left shaken by the ordeal."
Pat Gillespie is said to be recovering from the burglary, however, PSNI are appealing for witnesses who were on Railway Street and the surrounding areas to get in touch at the Strabane Criminal Investigation Branch.
