OVER 1,000 people have now died after contracting coronavirus in Ireland, the Department of Health have confirmed.
The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) announced yesterday that a further 26 people have died from the virus, following from 42 newly confirmed deaths on Saturday, and the addition of 10 probable deaths, where a test has not been undertaken but doctors believe the passing is associated with Covid-19.
There are now 1,047 coronavirus-related deaths in Ireland.
The Department of Health yesterday also confirmed that 701 new cases have been reported as of 6pm yesterday, Sunday 26 April, bringing Ireland's total to 19,262.
The HSE is working rapidly to identify any close contacts the newly confirmed cases may have had, in order to advise them and further slow the spread of the virus.
Data from Friday, 24 April, shows that of all confirmed cases, 5,064 are reported as being health care workers.
Dublin remains the worst-hit area in the country, with 9,224 cases-- 50% of the total amount.
Community transmission accounts for 63% of all confirmed cases, where a patient has not travelled abroad or had known contact with a confirmed case.
There are 601 confirmed 'clusters' of coronavirus, where there have been three or more cases linked-- may of these have been in residential care homes or nursing homes.
