DUBLIN band 'Tupelo' are flying in to headline one of the opening night concerts of this year's 2013 Manchester Irish Festival this Friday (March 8) at St Kent's award winning Irish club in Fallowfield, South Manchester.
The four-piece acoustic roots driven act play an eclectic line-up of instruments which includes banjo, guitar, fiddle, double bass, mandolin, harmonica and dobro.
Already attracting a lot of media interest on both sides of the water, the band has already had airplay on the BBC and RTE. Career highlights include being selected to play in front of 80,000 at Croke Park for an ALL Ireland Final.
Kevin Fitzpatrick, co-chair of the festival, said: "We wanted to do something special for the first night of the festival.
"The band seems to heading for stardom and we wanted to feature them before they start playing 20,000 Arenas like The Script.
"It's a bit expensive bringing over bands from Ireland, but the customers kept asking me to bring them over. We've also got the award winning Lisa McHugh flying over on St Patrick's eve and we've got twenty events going on over the ten days of the festival including the BBC filming a Comic Relief special.
"I will need a couple of weeks rest after the festival has finished to recover. "
Tupelo's line up is James Cramer on Lead Vocals, Songwriter, Banjo, Acoustic Guitar, Guitjo, Harmonica, Kevin Duffy on Fiddle, Mandolin, Backing Vocals, Damien McMahon on Double Bass, Backing Vocals and Paul Murray - Acoustic Guitar, Dobro, Mandolin, Guitjo, Backing Vocals.
