A MAN died on an Aer Lingus flight from Lisbon to Dublin yesterday.
A woman, believed to be Portuguese and in her 40s, on the same flight was also arrested under the Drug Trafficking Act.
It is believed she was accompanying the Brazilian man who died on board flight EI 485.
Before his death, the 25-year-old man had to be restrained by members of the crew after he reportedly became agitated and bit another passenger.
A doctor and a nurse treated the man after he became unwell, collapsed and lost consciousness.
He was pronounced dead at Cork Airport at 6.40pm.
His body was taken to Cork University Hospital, where a post mortem will be carried out today to help determine how he died.
The captain had declared a medical emergency and diverted the plane to Co. Cork, just before 6pm yesterday.
The woman was detained at Cork Airport at 11pm on Sunday under the Drug Trafficking Act.
Gardaí discovered a 1.8kg substance believed to be amphetamine in the bags of the woman who was arrested. The substance has yet to be analysed.
The 168 passengers and six crew members on board the flight were questioned by gardaí in Cork when the plane landed.
The man who was bitten during the flight was taken to Cork University Hospital, where he was treated for his injury.
