The real news here is that due to judging conflicts Brogan McCay of Scoil Rince McConomy-Bradley is out! Brogan, who starred alongside Julia O'Rourke in the film Jig, has been World Champion for the past three years and holds countless other titles.
With Brogan out, a real likelihood to win is Ireland’s Róisín Naughton from the Coleman School, who has come second at the Worlds for the past three years, although did best her friendly-rival at the 2012 British Nationals.
However, equally England’s Olivia Drury of the Claddagh Academy is a star contender, having achieved third place in the 2012 Worlds and third again in the 2013 Worlds – despite having broken her hand weeks before competition! Olivia has enjoyed a meteoric rise up to the echelons of the competitive world despite having started at the relatively ripe age of seven – perhaps her star is still soaring?
Doherty Petri’s Julia O'Rourke is the 2010 Worlds winner. A back injury put her out of the running for the 2013 World Championships (she placed 24th), but since then she has fought to regain her footing and placed second in the 2013 All Ireland’s.
