Watch: Irish MMA star shares heart-warming video of him and his grandad with dementia singing along to John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’

IAN GARRY, an Irish mixed martial artist took to Twitter on Monday to share a lovely video of him and his grandad singing John Lennon’s Imagine.

Speaking to camera, 21-year-old Garry tells his followers that his grandad has dementia and reveals a loving tribute he’s made in his honour.

Tattooed on his arm, the MMA star has the word ‘imagine’. The story behind this, Garry says, is that his granda “can’t really remember a lot of things”, but that he always breaks into song whenever someone utters the title of Lennon’s 1971 hit.

"I'm hoping and praying that if I say this, he'll sing it," he says.

The fighter then jokes that if his grandad doesn’t start singing, he’ll just show him the tattoo ten minutes later and try again.

As he enters the house, Garry shows off his ink and sits down next to his grandpa. And as expected, he begins to sing.

What follows is a touching moment when grandfather and grandson perform a beautiful rendition of the famous song which envisages a world where nothing, including disease, divides people and everyone comes together in peace, harmony and love.

How wonderfully poignant.
