A DUBLIN grandfather was given a beautiful surprise when he met his young grandson for the first time.
Paul Dunwoody arrived for work at the Elphin Bar in North Dublin as usual last Thursday, unaware his daughter Elaine had flown in from Australia.
As if that wasn't surprise enough, she had her beautiful three-month-old son Nathan in tow to meet his grandad.
The staff at the Elphin were in on the surprise and someone was on hand to record Paul’s reunion with Elaine and his first meeting with his grandson.
The proud grandfather was overcome with emotion as he took Nathan in his arms – his third grandson after not having any this time last year.
Paul last saw his daughter at Christmas when Elaine travelled home to give him the good news about her pregnancy.
After having problems sorting a passport for Nathan, Elaine didn't think she would make it home, so her arrival was a genuine shock for Paul.
The three generations will now be able to spend this Christmas together in Dublin with Elaine using the rest of her maternity leave to stay in Ireland until the end of December.
