THREE siblings have raised over £3,000 for charity by undertaking their annual physical challenge despite the coronavirus pandemic and associated lockdown restrictions.
Every year Merrill, Rob and Darren Lynch, of L Lynch Plant Hire & Haulage, challenge themselves to a ‘brothers Lighthouse Day’ to raise money for the Lighthouse Club Charity - which provides financial and welfare support to those who are suffering long term injury or illness within the construction sector.
And 2020 was no different, with the siblings managing to raise over £3,000, by completing 25km sections of the London LOOP and the Yorkshire Peaks, despite the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Every year, the three Lynch brothers take part in a physical challenge, in memory of their mother Celia Lynch, and to raise money for a good cause,” a statement on Lynch Plant Hire’s website explains.
“This year was no exception, and despite a global pandemic, the three brothers found a way to complete their challenge in a safe, socially distanced way,” they confirmed.
“The challenge this year was to complete a 25km section of the London LOOP, which is a circular route around the edge of London,” they add.
“Darren was unable to travel to London due to lockdown restrictions coming into force before the challenge, and so had to improvise.
“He completed his 25km walk over the Yorkshire Peaks, keeping in touch with Merrill and Rob digitally while the three of them covered their distances.
“Together, the brothers were able to raise over £3,000 for the Lighthouse Club charity, and Lynch is delighted to be able to support the brothers and sponsor their challenge.”
Having completed their challenge, Merrill Lynch said: “We are so pleased to be able to do our small bit for those in need, and those within our industry.”
In 2018 the brothers completed the London Marathon, starting and finishing the race together, and raised nearly £8,000 for the Lighthouse Club.
L Lynch Plant Hire & Haulage have also donated £10,000 to the Lighthouse Club, as their top prize for their Christmas Cracker campaign.
The charity has launched the campaign this month, which aims to sell 300,000 crackers for a prize draw which will be drawn on December 18.

Lighthouse Christmas Cracker campaign
The Lighthouse Club have come up with a new way to spread Christmas cheer this year.
Their Lighthouse Christmas Cracker campaign asks supporters to purchase an e-Christmas card from the charity, to send to colleagues and work contacts, for which they will be entered into a prize draw.
“Many companies already opt for an e-card or ‘charity cards’ but ours comes with a real bang,” the charity explains.
“How about a personalised Charity ‘Christmas Cracker’ e-Card that contains a huge prize pot of £25,000/€25,000?”
The cash prizes include a £10,000 first prize, £5,000 second prize, five £1,000 prizes for third prize and the fourth and final prize will see 10 winners each receive £500.
