WOMEN in Ireland have had plenty to say about this Irish gas board engineer – and it’s not because he turned down a cuppa.
The energy provider took to Facebook to share a snap of one of their service engineers, Liam, and reveal that he’s been servicing boilers for 18 years.
The company uploaded Liam's friendly photo with the caption: "Meet our service engineer Liam! Liam has been servicing boilers for 18 years. That’s over 20,000 boilers and at least 6,500 cups of tea.”
His picture quickly went viral and attracted over 500 comments and 1,000 likes from Irish women across the land.
Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for a flood of colourful comments to appear beneath Liam’s picture.
One Liam superfan wrote: “I’d like to make an official complaint, my boiler broke two weeks ago and I did not get a Liam, I repeat I did not get a Liam.”
Another was a little more direct: "Oh hi Liam. Is it only Boilers you service?”
“I am getting my boiler serviced on Tuesday. Just wondering, what the timetable is looking like that day for Liam as he looks like he has a very nice personality,” wrote a more subtle fan.
Another commenter noted that Liam is setting the standard rather high for boiler engineers: “I’m more worried about the unrealistic standards of beauty that gas boiler engineers are held to. Everyone knows your average tradesman is a belching 49 year old with a beer belly and a comb over.”
But some commenters argued that if Liam was a woman some of the comments might be deemed extremely sexist.
"If it was a female engineer's pic and men were commenting like this they would be ostracised for being sexist and it would constitute sexual harassment!” one wrote.
