No pressure Father: Why a Facebook craze has 220,000 people in Ireland promising to go to Mass this Sunday

JESUS relied on sheer word of mouth to spread his message back in the day, but it might have been a little easier if he’d had Facebook.

RTÉ One might well agree, especially now that almost 200,000 users have promised to ‘attend’ their weekly Mass being broadcast this Sunday at 11am.

A further 42,000 have expressed an interest in 'going' along.

Unsurprisingly, the response of fans to the excitingly named event listed simply as ‘Mass’ has not disappointed.

“Have two tickets for the front pew for sale, don’t miss a second of the action,” wrote one keen attendee.

“Join me and Alan Shearer for highlights from Sunday’s Mass on Mass of the Day at 10:30 on BBC One,” added another impassioned fan.

Someone even asked if there would be free drinks, presumably excited by the prospect of a drop or two of Church wine.

Probably not what the event’s admin had in mind.

We hope the Priest is ready for a congregation a bit larger than he's used to this Sunday.
