Met Éireann predicts highs of 20C for Good Friday – while temperatures may soar to 23C over sunny Easter weekend

MET Éireann is predicting dry and sunny weather across Ireland this Easter weekend in spite of the miserable conditions out there at the moment.

The beginning of this week is set to be particularly dreary, with no less than four weather warnings in place.

The most severe conditions are expected in counties Cork and Waterford where a Status Orange rainfall alert will remain in place until 6pm on Monday.

Meanwhile, a Status Yellow rainfall warning is in place for Kilkenny, Wexford, Kerry, Limerick and Tipperary until the same deadline.

Elsewhere, a Status Yellow wind alert has been issued for Donegal, Cork, Galway, Mayo and Kerry – where gusts of up 110km/h are expected – and will remain in place until 7pm on Monday.

And finally, another Status Yellow wind warning for Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford, Wicklow, Offaly, Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford will stay in effect until 5pm this evening.

But don't get too down – things will start to pick up from Wednesday, and on Good Friday the emerald isle could enjoy a welcomed jump in temperatures to between 16C and 20C.

As for Easter weekend, Met Éireann forecaster Liz Walsh believes it could get even hotter on Saturday and Sunday.

She told the Irish Independent: "As we progress into the week, it's going to start getting warmer.

"By Easter weekend, we could see temperatures of up to 23C - a much better outlook for the holiday weekend.

"So we just have to get through this period and the weather should be warm and settled."

In the meantime, Tuesday is set to be damp and cloudy with highest temperatures ranging between 13C and 15C.

However, Wednesday and Thursday are to be dry days with sunny spells and highs of 17C to 18C.

Following the sunny Easter spell, Met Éireann are sadly expecting rain to return next week – so enjoy it while you can!
