From Melbourne to Mayo – Irishman in Australia travels 58,981 km to help local club win All-Ireland

A MAYO MAN who moved to Melbourne with his family in 2008, has displayed his commitment to his local GAA club by flying all the way home to take part in their quest for an All-Ireland hurling club title.

Stephen Coyne is captain of the Tooreen hurling team, who became the first Mayo club to capture the Connacht Intermediate hurling championship last November, overcoming Galway’s Ballinderreen.

Stephen, joined by wife Lisa and son JJ, heroically returned home from down under to lead his team to the title.

Once again, Stephen has made the trip home – without his family this time – to assist his teammates in booking a place in the All-Ireland Intermediate club final.

Stephen and his Torreen side will be looking to make history tomorrow when they face St Patrick’s Ballyragget in the semi-final. The game kicks off at 1.30 pm and AIB GAA will be live-streaming the game via their Facebook and YouTube pages.

Incredible commitment. Fingers crossed Stephen’s journey will pay off!
