Irish university ranked in the top 10 most beautiful in the world

TRINITY College Dublin has been ranked among the top ten most beautiful universities worldwide.

The Irish institution, according to Times Higher Education (THE), ranked in 9th place and is "the ideal Irish college destination".

THE described the univerity as "a combination of cobblestone walkways, sweeping emerald-green lawsn and 18th-century architectural gems".

They added that Trinity was "modeled" on the colleges of Oxford and Cambridge in the UK and had a number of particularly pleasing buildings.

The 'Long Room' in the Old Library was praised for its “central walkway lined with marble busts of philosophers and writers and a distinctive barrel ceiling” and its use in a number of Hollywood blockbusters.

The building has been featured in films such as Michael Collins, What If and the BBC Two series Ripper Street in the last 20 years.

THE said Trinity's attractiveness leads millions of tourists to visit the campus each year, with the Long Room and the Book of Kells being two of its most popular attractions.

It is estimated that over 945,000 people viewed the medieval manuscript in 2017 alone.

Italy's University of Bologna, the oldest university in the world, was ranked as the most beautiful worldwide, having been founded in 1088.

The University of Salamanca, Spain and the University of Coimbra, Portugal were listed in second and third place respectively.
