Irish donkey sanctuary launches 'Dear Donkey' fundraising campaign to help buy a new farm

THE DONEGAL Donkey Sanctuary is aiming to raise €1million to buy a new farm for its ever-growing arrival of unwanted and abused animals through its ‘Dear Donkey’ letter-writing campaign.

The Raphoe-based sanctuary provides shelter for abandoned donkeys, but with the number of vulnerable animals being looked after at it's premises continuing to rise, it is reaching capacity.

Since it opened in 2007, the animal refuge has operated on a small farm, loaning nearby paddocks when necessary.it does not provide a long-term solution to the sanctuary, which needs to purchase a new farm to offer sufficient grazing for the donkeys.

Now a long-term solution to the overcrowding problems at the sanctuary is needed, so they want to purchase a new farm to offer sufficient grazing for the donkeys.

In order to raise cash, the sanctuary is asking people to participate in its ‘Dear Donkey’ campaign by writing letters asking for their dreams to come true.

For just €5, you can enter into the draw, where 50per cent of the total funds raised will go towards purchasing the farm, while the remainder will go towards the prize fund to make the winner's dreams come true.
