In numbers... The World Irish Dancing Championships

IRISH dancers across Britain will be putting their feet up for a little rest before heading back out on to the floor, after competing in the World Irish Dancing Championships.

More than 300 competitors from Britain had the privilege of flying to Canada to strut their stuff on the dancefloor, in an effort to take home one of the coveted trophies.

British dancers performed well throughout the competition - taking the top gong in several categories.

The total number of dancers from across the world, competing in the Championships. The competitors came from all over the world - Ireland and Irish Diaspora hotspots like Britain, America, Canada, Australia and further afield.

The number of dancers from Britain who made their way to Canada to compete. All of Britain's dancers came from Irish dancing schools in England and in Wales.

There were 20 top three places for British dancers. 20 boys, girls and groups from across Britain managed to secure at least a third placed position in their categories.

There were almost 40 categories up for contention in Montreal this year - with a mix of age groups, girls' categories, boys' categories and groups.

Six of the 20 managed to scoop the top prize - in the girls 11-12 group, boys 14-15 group, the senior ladies over 21 and 20-21 categories, senior ladies céilí over 19's and the senior mixed céilí over 16's.
