A GLASS of hot toddy before bed is the key to a long life, according to Manchester’s newest Irish centenarian.
Great grandmother Maggie O’Malley celebrated her 100th birthday on February 13.
Born in 1916 near Lahardane in Co. Mayo, Maggie first came to England in 1951 when she was 35 years old.

Life has had its ups and downs for the Irish 100-year-old. Maggie married and had a family, but tragically lost her son when he was just 30 years old.
And after her husband passed away 11 years ago, it has been her daughter Mary Loughlin who has been by her side.
Maggie’s grandchildren and great grandchildrenMaggie, who is described as a great lady full of life and laughter, also has lots of family living nearby – her cousin Margaret Carolan along with seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Her 100th birthday celebrations took place at the Irish World Heritage Centre in Manchester and included a reunion from Maggie’s school Letterbrick in Crossmolina Co. Mayo.
Pat Jordan and Finian’s Rainbow band entertained and provided the music on the night.
