Harriet the Irish singing donkey from Galway goes viral

AN IRISH donkey has become an overnight internet sensation thanks after she was filmed serenading a passer-by with a song.

Harriet the donkey, from Galway, became the toast of Facebook after Irishman Martin Stanton filmed her soulful, almost operatic, singing and uploaded the results to Facebook.

“I visited the beautiful Harriet today (Sunday 21st October) She could never hee haw like other donkeys but apparently she's now an opera singer!!” Stanton captioned the post.

Stanton initially thought the donkey was called Harrison and was a boy, before realising she was actually more of a Harriet.

The video of Harriet singing has since amassed thousands of views and comments on the social media platform.

A clip of her singing has also found its way onto YouTube where it’s racked up close to 300,000 views and rising.

Suddenly, this sweet donkey from Connemara has become a fully-fledged celebrity, while Stanton has been busy singing her praises in the news.

Speaking during an interview on ABC News Stanton said, “She [Harriet] lives about 20 minutes away from me in Toureen, Connemara."

"I know the family who own her and I bring carrots, bread, and ginger nut biscuits. She never hew-haws like other donkeys."

"I try to visit whenever I can because she is adorable, so friendly and gentle. I found the video funny so I just posted it. I didn't think it would go viral."

Harriet’s timing could not be much better, coming just a few weeks before Christmas and the story of the most famous donkey of them all.
